Katherine is an artist/writer who owns, and lives on Apifera Farm, an animal non profit sanctuary in Maine that she runs with her husband. Her land and animals are merged into art and story. She started her art career as an illustrator in Minneapolis in 1996 but upon moving to her farm in 2004, her work evolved into story telling/painting and more. The animals of her sanctuary are daily partners in her stories and she currently writes a monthly column, Tales & Tails, which is written through the voices of her animals. She has written/illustrated 6 books.

Besides painting, Katherine creates creatures from clay and fiber. These often end up in short stories. Her stitching is self taught, raggedy and childlike. She cares for 60 animals at the sanctuary, but her studio mate is a rabbit named Dandelion.

Her books combine art and photographs and share the stories of love, loss, grief and acceptance. Her first book in 2010, "Creative Illustration Workshop" {Quarry Books} explored ways to bring out the essence in illustration and story and was ranked third by Amazon Editors in the 2010 Photo/Art Books. Visit her online shop for available work.
