Help Cracker Jack the senior donkey come to Apifera for his forever home!!
This month's print sale will help us adopt an abused, senior donkey that was rescued by Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue. This donkey was used for roping, leaving his legs with open, raw wounds. Police had to assist with the rescue. The donkey was then hauled to California by Peaceful Valley, and then relocated to an intermediate home in Oregon where he could possibly find a forever home, and that is how I came to meet him.
Senior donkeys are very difficult to place in adoptions. When I met this fellow, I encountered an old soul who had seen a life of heart breaks, and probably some loving too, because he is very gentle and tendered. Part of his ear has been chewed off, his legs are scarred, his teeth are worn - most likely from standing tied too long so he tried to eat off his chain. He will have to eat grain supplement the rest of his life due to lack of good teeth. His foot was blown out from abscess due to standing on hard gravel areas.
Note: During the year, and portions of any print proceeds are donated to sanctuaries worldwide that help old animals like Old Dog Haven, el Refugio del Burrito in Spain, New Moon Goat Sanctuary [where our senior pygmies are from], and also our own seniors if they need medical care.
